Biography
I am a freelance photographer currently based in Toronto. Canada is my ninth country of residence, having lived in England, France, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, and the U.S.A.
In the past I had been showing and selling my work in Ontario since 1991 through Galleries , Art Consultants, and at Outdoor Art and Craft Shows. On the left you can see my images as book covers and magazine covers. Today I am semi-retired and no longer have representation- for now. I have yet to decide next steps, we shall have to wait and see….!
I print my own work, as printing is the most personal of the processes involved in making the picture. It is harder to tell a lie in Art, than it is in real life. While I am not influenced by the work of any photographer, I do like the work of Don McCullin, the War Photographer. Formerly a darkroom Printer, my work is now digital but a picture can still take hours working in photoshop, for me to be happy with the final result.
My collections include images from Jerusalem; Alaska; the Badlands, South Dakota; Singapore; Malaysia; Canada ( I have driven from Newfoundland to Alaska), and Pakistan’s NorthWest Frontier Province, on the Afghan border.
I find my titles in the poetry of Rilke, TS Eliot, Dylan Thomas, Sylvia Plath, Samuel Beckett, and Wilfred Owen.. At times, I am influenced by my taste in music, which ranges from the plainsong of Hildegard von Bingen, to jazz, blues, to the heavy metal of Black Sabbath.
It was Pasternak who said “ Beauty is the joy of possessing form”. This harmony can be recognized in all things around us, animate and inanimate.
